What we offer

Gainesville Lee Gilmer Memorial (GVL) Airport Limo Service

Lake Lanier home owners and Hall County business executives rely on our Gainesville GVL airport limo service for planeside loading, flight tracked arrivals, and flat quotes to any town in Georgia, GA.

Stretch Limo Service to and from Gainesville Lee Gilmer Memorial (GVL) Airport

Corporate jets touch down at Lee Gilmer Memorial a few minutes from downtown Gainesville, and the people stepping off them rarely want to stand at a rental counter. Union Limousine brings professional Georgia airport limo service to GVL with chauffeurs who meet your aircraft at the Champion Aviation ramp, load luggage while you finish your last call, and drive you to Lake Lanier, Braselton, Buford, or Atlanta in a vehicle sized for your party. Every reservation across Georgia, GA is confirmed in writing, tracked against your tail number or ETA, and priced before you fly.

Private Aviation Deserves a Private Chauffeur at GVL

Lee Gilmer Memorial is a general aviation field, which changes how ground transportation works. There is no arrivals hall, no taxi queue, and no shuttle loop. Pilots call ahead to the FBO, passengers walk a short distance from the aircraft to the terminal, and whatever ride they arranged is either waiting in the lot or it is missing. We treat that moment as the whole point of the service. Our dispatch team watches your flight through the FBO and public tracking feeds, adjusts for early arrivals, and positions the chauffeur at the terminal door before the engines spool down.

History and Importance of the Airport

The field was activated in April 1940 as a municipal airport, and in 1943 the U.S. Navy leased the land from the city for one dollar to train ground crews in ground controlled approach procedures. The Navy laid the intersecting 4,000 foot runways, built the terminal and a control tower, and added radar hangars and barracks before returning everything to Gainesville in 1947. The city renamed the facility in 1971 for Lee Gilmer, the local pilot who ran Gilmer Flying Service before, during, and after the war, and the airport history published by the City of Gainesville records over $4.3 million in federal, state, and local investment in runways, lighting, and taxiways since then. Today the Georgia Department of Transportation classifies GVL as a Level III general aviation airport, the top tier below commercial service, and it functions as the primary business aviation gateway for Northeast Georgia.

Airlines Operating From GVL

No scheduled airline serves Lee Gilmer Memorial. Traffic consists of corporate jets, turboprops, charter operators, fractional ownership programs, flight training aircraft, and helicopter work tied to regional hospitals and utilities. The nearest commercial airline terminal is Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International, roughly 60 miles southwest by road, and many of our GVL clients use both airports on the same trip.

Domestic Destinations

Because the airport handles private aircraft, destinations depend on the operator. The 5,496 foot main runway with an ILS approach lets midsize jets depart with full fuel on most days, which puts Teterboro, Washington Dulles, Charlotte, Nashville, Dallas Love Field, Palm Beach, and Naples within a single nonstop leg. Lighter aircraft reach Hilton Head, Destin, and the Carolina mountains in under two hours.

Terminal Information

The passenger terminal is the original Navy building, restored and run by Champion Aviation Services, the full service FBO on the field. Inside are a pilot lounge, a conference room, rental car desks, complimentary coffee and ice, and crew facilities, and the ramp outside handles Jet A quick turns and 100LL fueling. A second operator, Lanier Flight Center, runs a self serve 100LL pump for piston aircraft. The field has 81 T hangars and 12 corporate hangars leased through the city Public Works Department, two paved runways (5/23 at 5,496 by 100 feet with MALSR approach lighting and an ILS, and 11/29 at 4,003 by 100 feet), and a grass strip beside Runway 29. GVL has no operating control tower; pilots coordinate on UNICOM 123.075.

Passenger Traffic

Activity at a general aviation airport is measured in aircraft operations. GVL sees steady corporate, charter, and training traffic year round, with sharp peaks during Road Atlanta race weekends, summer weekends on Lake Lanier, and the fall event calendar in Gainesville. For your chauffeur that means ramp congestion is predictable by season, and we staff dispatch accordingly.

Parking Overview

Vehicle parking is free in the surface lot outside the Champion Aviation terminal, with no gates, tickets, or time limits, and aircraft tiedowns and overnight ramp space are arranged through the FBO. There is no long term garage, no valet, and no cell phone lot, so a car left for a multi day trip sits in an open lot. Travelers who prefer to leave the car at home book a chauffeur for both legs and avoid the exposure entirely.

Pickup and Drop Off Guidance

Chauffeurs meet passengers inside the FBO lobby or at the terminal entrance on Aviation Way. The FBO can also grant ramp access for direct planeside loading when the operator approves it, which is the standard we use for corporate accounts and medical transfers. Share your tail number, operator name, and estimated arrival when you book; we confirm with the FBO the morning of your flight and text you the chauffeur name and vehicle plate. For departures we recommend arriving at the terminal 20 to 30 minutes before wheels up, since there is no security screening line to absorb the time.

Ground Transportation at GVL

Options at the field are limited. Rental cars can be reserved through the FBO and brought to the terminal, Uber and Lyft drivers are sparse on the north side of Gainesville and can involve long waits, and WeGo, the Hall Area Transit rideshare van, runs weekdays only with virtual stops that may sit up to 250 feet from your door. Our GVL airport car service fills that gap with a dedicated vehicle, a known price, and a chauffeur who already knows the route.

Tips for Arriving Passengers

  • Ask your pilot to relay your ETA to Champion Aviation so the FBO can alert us to early or late arrivals.
  • Pack what you need for the car ride in a small bag; checked luggage goes straight from the aircraft to the trunk.
  • Gainesville sits at 1,277 feet with cooler evenings than Atlanta, so keep a jacket accessible in fall and winter.
  • Use the terminal WiFi for last minute itinerary changes; it beats cell coverage on the ramp.
  • Race weekend traffic on Georgia Highway 53 toward Braselton builds by mid morning; book an early departure slot.

Why a Prebooked Chauffeur Beats Taxis and Rideshare at GVL?

Taxis do not stage at a general aviation airport, and app drivers accept a trip only after you land, which means your ground time starts with a search. A reserved chauffeur removes that variable. The vehicle is positioned before you arrive, the fare is fixed in advance, the driver has handled luggage for a jet party before, and the booking carries the same confirmation at 6 a.m. and at 11 p.m. alike For groups, nothing in the rideshare apps matches a Sprinter or a stretch limousine waiting at the door.

Our Fleet for Lee Gilmer Memorial Transfers

Every vehicle is late model, detailed before each run, and driven by a commercially licensed chauffeur. Union Limousine matches the vehicle to the aircraft party size and the luggage load:

  • Sedans (up to 3 passengers): Executive transfers to Gainesville offices, hospital visits, and single arrivals heading to Lake Lanier homes.
  • SUVs (up to 6 passengers): Families with lake gear, corporate teams with carry ons, and winter trips into the North Georgia mountains.
  • Stretch Limousines (up to 20 passengers): Weddings at Lanier Islands, anniversary arrivals, and Petit Le Mans hospitality groups who want to make an entrance.
  • Sprinter Vans (up to 14 passengers): Race crews, sales teams, and multi family lake weekends where luggage volume matters.
  • Party Buses (up to 30 passengers): Bachelor and bachelorette groups, birthday charters, and Chateau Elan winery tours.
  • Mini Charter Buses (up to 35 passengers): University visits, church groups, and mid size corporate retreats from GVL to Buford or Athens.
  • Full Size Charter Buses (up to 56 passengers): Conference delegations, athletic teams, and festival shuttles between Gainesville, Braselton, and metro Atlanta.

Destinations We Serve From GVL

Lake Lanier and Hall County

Most arrivals at Lee Gilmer Memorial are headed toward the water. Lake Lanier spreads across 38,000 acres and roughly 690 miles of shoreline managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and its marinas, Corps parks, and private docks begin about ten minutes west of the airport. Our Hall County car service covers Gainesville, Oakwood, Flowery Branch, Lula, Clermont, and the lake communities along Browns Bridge Road, with chauffeurs who know which marina gate to use after hours.

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and Braselton

The track lists GVL as its nearest airport, 12 miles down Georgia 53, which is why race teams and corporate hospitality groups fly here for Petit Le Mans and the spring and summer sports car weekends. Directions, parking policies, and event gates are published in the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta fan guide, and our chauffeurs follow the credentialed vehicle routes to the paddock so your group avoids the general admission backup. Chateau Elan, the winery resort beside the track, is a frequent overnight stop for the same travelers.

Connections to Atlanta and Other Georgia Airports

When a charter positions out of ATL or a commercial flight suits the return leg, we run the 60 mile transfer down Interstate 985 and Interstate 85 with the same chauffeur, and our ATL airport limo service handles the Hartsfield Jackson side with terminal and curb awareness. The same holds for Peachtree DeKalb, Athens Ben Epps, and Greenville Spartanburg across the state line; one booking under our Georgia limo service umbrella covers any combination of pickups across Georgia, GA.

Your chauffeur waits inside the Champion Aviation terminal lobby at 1137 Aviation Way or at the terminal entrance, holding a name sign. When the operator approves ramp access, loading happens planeside beside the aircraft.

The track sits about 12 miles from the airport along Georgia Highway 53 toward Braselton, normally a 20 to 25 minute drive. On Petit Le Mans days we add buffer time and use the credentialed vehicle entrances.

Yes. Dispatch monitors your tail number through public ADS B feeds and confirms the ETA directly with the FBO, so the chauffeur is repositioned automatically if your flight runs early or late.

Plan on 75 to 90 minutes for the roughly 60 mile run down Interstate 985 and Interstate 85 outside of peak hours. Weekday afternoons and Friday evenings toward the city can push the trip past two hours.

Vehicle parking in the surface lot by the FBO is free with no time limit, though it is open and unattended. Many travelers prefer a chauffeur for both legs so no car is left on the field during a trip.

We do. Sprinter vans seat up to 14 passengers with room for crew bags and equipment cases, and multiple vans can be staged together on the ramp side lot for larger teams and hospitality groups.

All of them. Chauffeurs run to Lanier Islands, Flowery Branch, Oakwood, Browns Bridge Road, Clermont, and the marinas and private docks in Hall, Forsyth, Dawson, and Gwinnett counties.

No. Lee Gilmer Memorial is a general aviation airport serving private, corporate, charter, and training aircraft only. Commercial flights depart from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta, about 60 miles away.

Reserve at least two to three weeks ahead for stretch limousines, Sprinters, and buses, since race week demand across Braselton and Gainesville is heavy. Sedans and SUVs can often be arranged within a few days.

Often yes. With permission from the FBO and your aircraft operator, the chauffeur drives onto the designated ramp area and loads directly from the aircraft hold, which keeps your group off the public lot entirely.
