Scholes International (GLS) Airport Limo Service

Stretch Limo Service to and from Scholes International (GLS) Airport

Scholes International Airport sits three miles southwest of downtown Galveston, and most people who land there arrive on a corporate jet, a charter turboprop, or a privately owned aircraft running on a schedule that belongs to them alone. Our Scholes International (GLS) Airport limo service is designed around that style of travel: a chauffeur positioned at the Island Jet Center ramp or the terminal curb the moment your wheels touch down, a vehicle matched to your party and luggage, and a direct run to Moody Gardens, the cruise piers at the Port of Galveston, or any address across Texas, TX. Union Limousine has delivered chauffeured ground transportation since 1997, and our Texas airport limo service carries that same discipline to the Gulf Coast's only island airport.

Why Travelers Across Texas Book Our GLS Limo Service?

Private aviation runs on precision, and the car waiting on the ground should match it. We follow your filed flight plan, adjust for weather holds over the Gulf, and stage the vehicle before your aircraft taxis in. What you get on every reservation:

  • Planeside or terminal meet and greet with a name board and luggage assistance
  • Flight monitoring for private, charter, and air taxi arrivals at GLS
  • Flat quoted pricing with no surge multipliers and no waiting time surprises
  • Licensed, insured chauffeurs who know the causeway, Seawall Boulevard, and Harborside Drive
  • Child seats, extra luggage capacity, and accessibility requests handled with advance notice

Private Aviation Transfers Matched to Your Flight Plan

The fixed base operator at GLS keeps a 24 hour passenger and pilot lounge, which means arrivals at odd hours are routine here. Our limo service runs on the same clock. A Gulfstream landing at 5 a.m. ahead of a refinery board meeting in Texas City gets the same cooled cabin and preset route as a Pilatus bringing a family in on a Friday evening for a beach weekend. Share your tail number and estimated time of arrival when you book, and the chauffeur will be watching the approach.

Cruise Connections From Scholes Field to the Port of Galveston

Galveston ranks among the busiest cruise homeports in the United States, and a growing number of guests fly privately into GLS to avoid the Interstate 45 crawl on embarkation day. Our Galveston cruise terminal car service carries you from the airport ramp to Cruise Terminal 10, Terminal 16, or Terminal 25 in roughly fifteen minutes, with bags loaded once at the aircraft and unloaded once at the ship. On debarkation morning the same chauffeur is parked on Harborside Drive before the first gangway opens.

Corporate, Medical, and Event Travel on Galveston Island

Executives visiting the University of Texas Medical Branch, Texas A&M University at Galveston, or the petrochemical complex across the causeway in Texas City rely on our Galveston County car service for door to door scheduling that holds across a full day of meetings. We also move wedding parties between the Bryan Museum and Hotel Galvez, convention delegations at the Galveston Island Convention Center, and families bound for Pleasure Pier or the Strand historic district.

A Brief History of Scholes Field

The field opened as Galveston Municipal Airport in 1931 and was formally dedicated on May 14, 1932. The U.S. Army expanded it in 1942 as Galveston Army Air Field, then deactivated the base on November 15, 1945 and returned it to the city. A new terminal opened in 1950 with air conditioning, a luxury at the time, and the airport was renamed in honor of airport manager and aviation pioneer Robert Scholes. Braniff flew to Houston from here into the 1950s, and regional commuter carriers later linked the island with Hobby and Intercontinental. Hurricane Ike flooded the terminal in 2008; the rebuilt 10,000 square foot building reopened on April 7, 2011. A 74 foot FAA contract tower went into service on January 20, 2006, and the Texas Department of Transportation named GLS its Reliever Airport of the Year in 2018. Today the field supports corporate aviation, air taxi operators, offshore energy helicopters, a flight academy, skydiving, and biplane and helicopter tours.

Airlines and Destinations at GLS

Scholes International has no scheduled airline service at present, so there are no gates, no ticket counters, and no security queues. Arrivals come on private, corporate, charter, and air taxi aircraft from across the country, with heavy traffic from the Dallas and Fort Worth area, Austin, San Antonio, Midland and the Permian Basin, New Orleans, and Florida. GLS is a customs landing rights airport, so international business flights can clear here with advance coordination. Travelers who need a scheduled flight use William P. Hobby Airport, about 45 minutes north, or George Bush Intercontinental, about 75 minutes away in normal traffic. Our chauffeurs run island to Houston transfers for both airports daily.

Terminal and Passenger Traffic

GLS operates a single terminal with airport administration on the second floor and a 24 hour passenger and pilot lounge on the ground level. An observation deck above the airside doors has picnic tables and a clear view of both runways: Runway 14/32, a 6,000 foot asphalt and concrete strip with an ILS approach, and Runway 18/36, a 6,001 foot concrete runway. The air traffic control tower is staffed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, City of Galveston Fire Station 4 provides 24 hour aircraft rescue coverage on the field, and there are no landing fees. FAA counts have historically placed the airport around 60,000 aircraft movements a year with well over a hundred based aircraft, and activity peaks on cruise weekends, spring break, and summer beach season.

Parking Overview

A free visitor lot sits to the right of the terminal building, and the circular drive at the entrance is reserved for 15 minute passenger loading. The airport's reserved short term and long term lot serves tenants and aviation visitors leaving a vehicle for three days or longer: $5 plus tax per day after day three, $50 plus tax per month, or $35 plus tax per month on a prepaid yearly agreement. Cruise passengers cannot use the airport lot, and unauthorized vehicles are towed. The administrative office handles parking agreements from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Pick Up and Drop Off Guidance

From Interstate 45 southbound, exit at 61st Street, turn right and continue to Seawall Boulevard, turn right toward 83rd Street, then turn right on 83rd and continue to the fourth stop sign before making a U turn onto Terminal Drive. The terminal is on the right. The City of Galveston's airport guidance confirms the free lot and the 15 minute loading loop. Our chauffeurs meet FBO arrivals at the Island Jet Center lobby and terminal arrivals under the covered entrance, with the vehicle positioned on the loop so bags move a few steps from door to trunk.

Ground Transportation at Scholes Field

There is no rental car counter inside the terminal; the closest agency is about two miles away, and the FBO can arrange delivery for aircraft customers. Island bus routes do not pull up to the terminal, and taxis rarely stage at a general aviation field. Our GLS airport car service fills that gap with a reserved vehicle and a chauffeur who already knows your aircraft, your passenger count, and your destination.

Tips for Arriving Passengers

  • Send your tail number and FBO when booking so we can monitor the approach in real time
  • Expect Gulf humidity year round; our chauffeurs cool the cabin before you reach the curb
  • On cruise turnaround days, Harborside Drive and the port gates slow down between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Hurricane season runs June through November; we reroute and reschedule at no charge when weather closes the field
  • International arrivals should confirm customs clearance with the FBO before departure
  • Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn are inside the airport complex, so a short hop with luggage is often the best first stop

Why a Prebooked Chauffeur Beats Taxis and Rideshare at GLS?

Rideshare coverage on Galveston's west end thins out early in the evening, and drivers who accept a GLS request are often ten to fifteen minutes away on Seawall Boulevard. Taxis seldom wait at a general aviation terminal because there is no steady stream of walk up fares. A reservation with Union Limousine removes the guesswork: the chauffeur is tracking your flight, the rate is fixed before you leave home, the vehicle is sized for your luggage, and the same driver can hold on the ramp for a return leg later the same day.

Local Areas and Venues We Serve From GLS

The airport complex itself contains Moody Gardens, with its glass pyramids, hotel, convention center, and championship golf course, along with Schlitterbahn Galveston a few hundred yards from the ramp. Across the island we serve Seawall Boulevard hotels, the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, the Strand, the Bryan Museum, the Galveston Island Convention Center, UTMB, Texas A&M Galveston on Pelican Island, and every pier at the Port of Galveston. Beyond the causeway we cover Texas City, League City, Kemah Boardwalk, the Clear Lake and NASA corridor, and all of Houston. Longer runs to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Corpus Christi are part of our Texas limo service every week.

No. GLS is a general aviation reliever airport owned by the City of Galveston, and no airline currently sells tickets from the field. Private, corporate, charter, and air taxi aircraft use it daily. The nearest scheduled service is William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.

For aircraft handled by the FBO, the chauffeur waits inside the Island Jet Center lobby or planeside on the ramp when the operator allows it. For terminal arrivals, the meeting point is the covered entrance off the 15 minute loading loop on Terminal Drive.

The port's cruise terminals on Harborside Drive are about five miles from the GLS ramp, a drive of roughly fifteen minutes in normal traffic. On embarkation days we allow extra time for the port gates and the luggage drop lanes.

Yes. Island to Houston airport transfers are a daily run for our chauffeurs. Hobby takes about 45 minutes and Bush Intercontinental about 75 minutes outside rush hour, and we pad the schedule when Interstate 45 construction or weather is in play.

We do. Provide the tail number or the charter operator's trip reference when booking, and dispatch monitors the flight from departure through landing. If a weather hold or a diversion changes the arrival time, the chauffeur adjusts without any extra charge.

A free visitor lot sits beside the terminal for short visits, and the circular drive allows 15 minutes for loading. Stays over three days require the airport's reserved lot at $5 plus tax per day. Cruise parking is prohibited at the airport.

A 14 passenger Sprinter van is the right call. Ten guests plus checked bags, carry ons, and a cooler or two fit comfortably, and the van's height makes loading at the aircraft and the pier easier than splitting the group across two SUVs.

Absolutely. Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center sits inside the airport complex, so delegates landing at GLS can be at the hotel entrance within minutes. We also provide shuttle loops between the convention center, the Seawall, and the Strand during multi day events.

Sedans and SUVs can usually be confirmed with a few hours of notice. Sprinter vans, stretch limousines, and charter buses are best reserved at least 48 hours ahead, and peak cruise weekends, spring break, and holiday periods book up a week or more in advance.

Yes. Beyond the island we cover Texas City, League City, Kemah, Clear Lake, and all of Houston, plus long distance runs to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Corpus Christi. Statewide travel across Texas is priced as a flat rate before departure.
