Durango La Plata County (DRO) Airport Limo Service
Ski bags, boot cases and a sleepy family all fit when our Durango La Plata County (DRO) Airport Limo Service meets your Denver flight and climbs US 550 to Purgatory in a warm, roomy SUV or a Sprinter.

Stretch Limo Service to and from Durango La Plata County (DRO) Airport
Durango La Plata County Airport sits on a mesa above the Florida River, about fourteen miles southeast of downtown Durango, and nearly everyone who lands there has somewhere specific to be: a hotel on Main Avenue, a condo at Purgatory, a campus event at Fort Lewis College, or a lodge far out toward Vallecito. Our Colorado airport limo service covers that last stretch with a licensed chauffeur who is already parked when your flight from Denver, Dallas Fort Worth, Phoenix or Houston rolls up to the ramp. Union Limousine tracks every inbound tail number, meets you at the baggage carousel or the curb, and keeps the cabin warm in January and cool in July. For travelers across Colorado, CO who want a calm, private ride from DRO instead of a rental counter or an app queue, this page lays out how we work, what we drive, and what to expect at the airport itself.
Why Travelers Book Us for Durango Airport Limo Transfers?
DRO is a small terminal with big demand. The airport handled over 560,000 passengers in 2025, and the ground transportation page on its own website urges visitors to reserve rides in advance because on demand requests can mean a long wait. We built our Durango service around that reality. A reservation with us produces a named chauffeur, a confirmed vehicle, a flat quote, and a pickup window that shifts automatically if your flight is early or late. There is no surge pricing on a snowy Friday and no hunting for a driver who is willing to climb US 550 after dark.
- Flight monitoring on every arrival, with pickup times adjusted for delays at no extra charge
- Meet and greet inside the terminal or a quick curbside collection in front of the loading area
- One hour of complimentary wait time on airport pickups, so a slow bag claim never costs you
- Chauffeurs who drive US 160, US 550 and the county roads toward Bayfield and Hesperus year round
- Child seats, ski racks and oversized luggage handled when you tell us at booking
- Flat rate pricing quoted before you confirm, with no tolls or surprises on the invoice
The same team that runs our Colorado limo service statewide dispatches every DRO booking, which means a Durango pickup and a connection to Denver International or Albuquerque can be arranged in one call. Whether you are flying in for a wedding at a ranch outside Durango or heading out for a Monday meeting in Dallas, the standard is the same: a clean vehicle, a professional driver, and a schedule that holds.
Where We Drive From Durango La Plata County Airport?
Downtown Durango and the Animas Valley
Most of our DRO riders head straight for Durango itself. The historic downtown runs along Main Avenue between the Animas River and the mesa, with the Strater Hotel, the narrow gauge depot, galleries, breweries and restaurants all within a few walkable blocks. Our La Plata County car service drops you at your hotel door in about twenty five minutes from the airport in normal conditions. If you are chasing the quirkier side of town, the Atlas Obscura guide to Durango lists a few spots worth a detour, and our chauffeur can route past them on request. North of downtown, we serve the neighborhoods along Florida Road, the Animas Valley toward Trimble Hot Springs, and the Fort Lewis College campus on the rim above the city.
Purgatory, Silverton and the San Juan Skyway
Purgatory Resort is roughly twenty five miles north of Durango on US 550, and in winter the drive up past Hermosa and the Tamarron golf course is one of the prettiest airport transfers in the state. Our SUVs and Sprinter vans carry skis, boards and boot bags, and our drivers know how fast the weather turns on Coal Bank Pass and Molas Pass beyond the resort. Keep going and you reach Silverton, the old mining town at the far end of the Million Dollar Highway, where our San Juan County car service handles summer train passengers riding one direction by rail and the other by road. The whole corridor threads the San Juan National Forest, about 1.8 million acres of alpine peaks plus aspen stands with its headquarters in Durango, so hikers and hunters often ask us for trailhead drops at Molas Lake, Andrews Lake or the Colorado Trail crossing.
Bayfield, Ignacio, Vallecito and Pagosa Springs
East of the airport, County Road 501 climbs to Vallecito Reservoir, a favorite for boating, fishing and lakeside cabins. Bayfield sits a few minutes off US 160, and Ignacio, home of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the Sky Ute Casino Resort, is a short run south on CO 172 past the airport entrance. We serve all three regularly, along with Forest Lakes, Oxford and the ranch roads in between. Pagosa Springs and its hot mineral pools lie about an hour east on US 160, and Wolf Creek Ski Area is another forty minutes beyond that on the pass. Each of these is a fixed quote from DRO, and round trips with a waiting chauffeur are easy to arrange for a day of soaking or skiing.
Mesa Verde, Cortez and Farmington
Westbound travelers use DRO as the gateway to Mesa Verde National Park, about an hour away on US 160, and to Cortez, Dolores and the Four Corners Monument beyond. Southbound, US 550 reaches Farmington, New Mexico, in about an hour, which is why our DRO airport car service often carries oil and gas crews, hospital staff and university visitors across the state line. Cortez Municipal Airport and Four Corners Regional Airport in Farmington both sit within our coverage area, so if a connection breaks or a charter lands at a different field, we can reposition a vehicle the same day.
Our Fleet for DRO Airport Transfers
Southwest Colorado travel involves gear. Ski bags, rafts, mountain bikes, hunting cases and wedding attire all need room, and our fleet is sized so that nothing rides on a lap. Every vehicle below is detailed before it leaves for Airport Road, and each chauffeur is licensed, insured and briefed on your itinerary. Union Limousine matches the car to the group, the luggage and the road ahead.
Private Cars for One to Six Guests
Sedans, Up to 3 Passengers
A sedan is the quiet choice for a business traveler flying in from DFW for a meeting at Mercy Hospital or a couple bound for a downtown inn. Three passengers and three standard bags ride comfortably, and the ride into Durango stays smooth on the highway grade down from the mesa.
Best Uses for a Sedan
- Weekday executive transfers between DRO and offices around Durango and Bodo Park
- Couples heading to Main Avenue hotels, the Strater or a Rochester Hotel stay
- Fort Lewis College faculty, speakers and visiting families with light luggage
SUVs, Up to 6 Passengers
Our SUVs are the workhorses of the Purgatory and Vallecito runs. Six passengers, six bags and a roof box for skis fit without a squeeze, and the extra ground clearance and all weather tires matter on CR 501 after a storm. Families arriving for a week at a Durango Mountain Resort condo book these above any other vehicle in winter.
Celebration and Group Vehicles
Stretch Limousines, Up to 20 Passengers
For wedding parties arriving on the same Denver flight, milestone birthdays and brewery crawls along Main Avenue, a stretch limousine turns the airport pickup into the first event of the trip. Up to twenty guests ride together with lighting, sound and a privacy divider, and we stage the vehicle in the loading area in front of the terminal so boarding takes minutes.
Sprinter Vans, Up to 14 Passengers
A Sprinter van carries fourteen with standing room, individual seats and a rear luggage bay that swallows ski gear or conference displays. It is the practical pick for corporate retreats at Purgatory, church groups heading to Vallecito camps and extended families arriving for a reunion in Bayfield.
Party Buses, Up to 30 Passengers
Bachelor and bachelorette groups, river rafting crews and company outings book our party buses for up to thirty riders. Perimeter seating, a sound system and room to move make the forty five minutes to Purgatory or the loop out to Silverton feel like part of the party rather than a transfer.
Charter Coaches for Large Groups
Mini Charter Buses, Up to 35 Passengers
Mini charter buses seat thirty five in forward facing comfort with overhead racks and underfloor storage. Conference organizers at Fort Lewis College, tour operators running Mesa Verde day trips and school groups flying through DRO use them to keep everyone on one vehicle with one schedule.
Full Size Charter Buses, Up to 56 Passengers
Full size coaches carry fifty six passengers with restrooms, reclining seats and deep luggage bays. They handle multi family ski weeks, destination weddings that fill an entire flight and corporate incentive groups that need to move from the terminal to a resort in a single motion.
What to Tell Us for a Coach Booking
- Passenger count, flight numbers and whether arrivals are split across several flights
- Final destination and any stops along US 550 or US 160 for photos or meals
- Luggage volume, especially ski bags, golf clubs and trade show cases
- Return date and departure flight time so we can set the pickup for check in at DRO
Group and Corporate Travel Through DRO
Chartering a vehicle for a large group carries responsibilities that a rideshare app never has to think about. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration publishes guidance for travelers and trip planners that recommends checking a carrier's operating authority, insurance and safety record before signing a contract, and we encourage every event planner to do exactly that with us. Our coaches run under proper authority, our drivers hold the right license class with passenger endorsements, and our dispatch team keeps hours of service compliant on long mountain itineraries. For corporate clients, we provide consolidated invoicing, a single point of contact and the ability to add or remove vehicles as headcounts change in the final week before a Durango event.

History and Regional Importance
Commercial flights at La Plata County Airport began on November 27, 1946, when Monarch Air Lines, a predecessor of Frontier, started service with twin engine propeller aircraft. The main runway was lengthened in the summer of 1977 to accept jets, and the terminal in use today opened in 1988. The field covers about 1,281 acres and operates a single paved runway, 03/21, roughly 9,200 feet long and 150 feet wide, enough for the Airbus A319s and Embraer regional jets that now make up most of the schedule. DRO has never had an air traffic control tower; pilots coordinate on a common frequency and Denver Center handles approach and departure control for roughly 40,000 aircraft movements a year.
The airport matters far beyond Durango. It is the primary commercial gateway for southwest Colorado, northwest New Mexico and the wider Four Corners, and city officials cite an annual economic impact near 300 million dollars and over 2,600 jobs tied to the field. Passenger traffic has roughly doubled over two decades, and the current multi phase terminal program is the first major expansion since the building opened. Avflight operates the fixed base operation for private and charter aircraft on the field.
Airlines Serving DRO
Two mainline carriers fly to Durango through their regional partners. United, which carried about 57 percent of DRO passengers in 2025, operates several daily flights to Denver, including an early morning departure for same day connections, plus seasonal nonstops to Houston. American flies daily to Dallas Fort Worth and Phoenix, and in 2025 it upgraded the Dallas route to a 128 seat Airbus A319. Flights are operated by SkyWest, Envoy and other regional affiliates depending on the season. Frontier briefly served Denver and Las Vegas from 2021 but no longer operates at DRO.
Nonstop Destinations
Year Round
- Denver International (DEN) on United, multiple daily departures
- Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) on American, daily
- Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) on American, daily
Seasonal
- Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) on United, with winter service scheduled from December 19, 2026 through March 27, 2027 and summer flights in recent years
Terminal Information
DRO has one terminal, and everything in it sits at ground level with ramps and curb cuts throughout. Passengers board by stairs or boarding ramp on the apron; there are no jet bridges, which is part of why boarding at Durango feels quick. Phase 1A of the terminal development program finished in April 2024 and added a new wing. Phase 1B, which broke ground in October 2024, adds about 19,700 square feet and renovates 19,000 more, bringing two additional gates and hold rooms, a larger TSA checkpoint, a new baggage claim and refreshed concessions. The connection between the new bag claim and the rest of the building was slated to open around the end of 2025, with the full phase wrapping up in 2026. Sky Dine runs food, beverage and retail both before and after security, free wireless is available on the DRO_WiFi network, and a grassy pet relief area sits at the north end of the rental car lot.
Passenger Traffic
The airport has set a record three years running. 2023 closed at 431,828 passengers, 2024 surpassed that before December figures were even final, and 2025 reached 563,009 passengers, a 13 percent jump over the prior year and about 40 percent above pre pandemic levels. June 2025 alone saw over 59,000 travelers, the busiest single month in the airport's history. Larger aircraft on the Denver and Dallas routes, more frequencies and lower average fares are the reasons airport leadership gives for the surge, and it is also why ground transportation at DRO has become something to plan rather than improvise.
Parking Overview
DRO operates two public lots beside the terminal with roughly 1,300 spaces after 150 paved spots were added in summer 2025. Both lots are cashless, both are patrolled, and both charge by the clock, so a stay that runs one minute into a new 24 hour period is billed for the next full day. Oversized vehicles that cannot fit a standard space are not allowed, and the airport runs a remote shuttle lot during the Thanksgiving crunch when the main lots fill. Level 1 EV charging is free with paid parking in the first six spaces of the south lot if you bring your own cord.
Current Rates
- First 60 minutes: free
- After the first hour: 1 dollar for each additional 30 minutes
- Daily maximum: 10 dollars per 24 hour period
- Peak holiday daily maximum: 15 dollars from November 23 to December 2, 2026 and December 23, 2026 to January 1, 2027
Why the Lots Fill Around the Holidays?
Thanksgiving is the single heaviest parking period of the year at DRO because so many local residents fly out to visit family. In 2023 vehicles overflowed the lots entirely, and the airport has since added surge pricing, the remote shuttle lot and more pavement. Even so, airport staff still describe parking as a work in progress, with another lot planned for 2027.
Payment Notes
Only debit, credit and tap to pay are accepted at the exit gates. Travelers can register a card in advance through the link on the airport parking page for a faster exit, and a form is available for lost receipts.
Pickup and Drop Off Guidance
The loading and unloading zone sits directly in front of the terminal doors. Vehicles may stop there to load, but they cannot be left unattended at the yellow curb, so drivers who arrive before a flight lands circle to the short term lot where the first hour is free. For our meet and greet service, your chauffeur waits inside near the baggage carousel holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the vehicle; for curbside service, we text when the car is at the curb and you step out through the main doors. Departing passengers are dropped at the same curb, a few steps from the airline counters.
Ground Transportation at DRO
The airport's ground transportation page lists a mix of taxi companies, local shuttle operators, regional van services, a few limousine firms and the Lyft and Uber apps, along with a hotel courtesy shuttle from the Sky Ute Casino Resort. Its own advice is to book before you arrive, since on demand calls can mean a lengthy wait at a terminal fourteen miles from town. Rental counters for several national brands operate inside the terminal with cars in an adjacent lot, and Road Runner Transit offers limited scheduled service for the region. There is no city bus route to the airport.
Tips for Arriving Passengers
- Arrive at least ninety minutes before departure, and closer to two hours during ski season and holiday weeks when the single checkpoint backs up
- Carry REAL ID compliant identification, which TSA now enforces at DRO and every other US airport
- Drink water on arrival; the airport sits above 6,600 feet and Purgatory and Silverton climb far higher
- Check the airport's flight status page before heading to the terminal, since winter weather and Denver connections can shift schedules
- If you are renting skis or bikes in Durango, tell your chauffeur so the vehicle has rack space on the return trip
- Pack a layer for the curb; the terminal is bright and warm, but the wind on the mesa is not
Why a Pre Booked Chauffeur Beats Taxis and Rideshare at DRO?
Durango is a small market with a limited pool of taxi and app drivers, and when two regional jets unload at once there are simply more passengers than cars. Rideshare drivers who do accept a DRO ping may be twenty minutes out, and most are reluctant to take a long fare up US 550 in a snowstorm or down to Farmington late at night. A pre booked chauffeur removes every one of those variables. The vehicle is already on the property, the fare is fixed regardless of demand, the driver is vetted and insured for commercial passenger work, and the cabin is sized for your luggage instead of whatever hatchback happens to be nearest. For groups, there is no alternative: no app will send a thirty passenger bus to the curb at Airport Road, and a column of five taxis never arrives at the resort together. Reserving in advance is the difference between an arrival you forget and one you remember for the wrong reasons.
