Houghton County Memorial (CMX) Airport Limo Service
Michigan Tech families, mining consultants, Copper Harbor couples rely on Houghton County Memorial (CMX) Airport limo service for sedans, SUVs and Sprinter vans that meet every United Express arrival.

Stretch Limo Service to and from Houghton County Memorial (CMX) Airport
Flying into the Keweenaw Peninsula puts you at the very top of Michigan, and the drive that follows deserves the same care as the flight. Our Houghton County Memorial (CMX) Airport limo service meets every United Express arrival at the W. Clarence Dwyer Terminal with a chauffeur who already knows your flight number, your destination, and the quickest route along US 41 toward Houghton, Hancock, or Calumet. As part of our wider Michigan airport limo service, we look after Copper Country travelers who want a warm vehicle at the curb, a driver who handles the luggage, and a price confirmed before the wheels leave Chicago.
CMX is a compact airport with one gate and two scheduled flights a day, so every arrival wave lands at once and the handful of local taxis fills within minutes. Reserving ahead removes that scramble. Whether you are a Michigan Tech parent arriving for move in weekend, a mining consultant heading to a site in Baraga County, or a couple bound for a Copper Harbor lodge, we hold a vehicle in your name and adjust to your actual landing time.
Why Keweenaw Travelers Reserve Ahead at CMX?
Chauffeurs Who Know Copper Country Roads
Snow season on the Keweenaw runs long, and Calumet regularly records close to 300 inches a year. Our chauffeurs drive these routes in every month, from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge crossing into Houghton to the climb up Quincy Hill in Hancock. Vehicles are prepared for winter conditions, drivers follow county plow progress, and we build weather margin into pickup times so you are never left waiting by the terminal door during a lake effect squall.
Flight Tracked Arrivals and Fixed Pricing
Union Limousine ties every reservation to your United flight number. If the Chicago departure runs late or a tailwind brings you in ahead of schedule, your chauffeur adjusts without a phone call from you. Pricing is quoted in full at booking, so a delay on the O'Hare end never turns into a surprise on your invoice. Travelers who use our limo service in Michigan for several trips a year tell us this predictability is the reason they stopped gambling on rental counters and rideshare apps in the Upper Peninsula.

Where We Drive From CMX?
Houghton and Hancock sit about four miles from the terminal, facing each other across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, and most of our CMX runs end in one of these two cities. Calumet and Laurium are seven miles north, where the Calumet Theatre and the historic downtown anchor Keweenaw National Historical Park. Lake Linden and the Torch Lake shoreline are a short drive east. Copper Harbor, at the end of US 41, is about 41 miles up the peninsula, with Brockway Mountain Drive and the Isle Royale ferry dock drawing summer visitors and the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge hosting weddings in every season. All of it faces Lake Superior, the largest and deepest of the Great Lakes, which shapes both the scenery and the weather on every ride we make.
Michigan Tech Visits and Campus Events
Michigan Technological University in Houghton drives a large share of CMX traffic: prospective students and parents on campus tours, visiting faculty, recruiters, and alumni returning for Winter Carnival and commencement. We coordinate pickups for admissions groups and departmental guests, and our Sprinter van service in Michigan is the usual choice when a research team or athletic staff flies in together.
Longer Runs Across the Western Upper Peninsula
We also carry passengers well beyond Houghton County. Baraga and L'Anse on Keweenaw Bay are about 40 miles south, Ontonagon and the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park are roughly 70 miles west, and Marquette is close to 100 miles east along US 41 and Michigan Route 28. For travelers who need an executive driver for the whole day, our Michigan chauffeur service keeps the same vehicle with you from the morning arrival through evening meetings.

History and Regional Importance
Houghton County Memorial Airport was dedicated in September 1948 before a crowd of about 20,000 people. It was built under a cooperative agreement among Canada, the United States, the State of Michigan, and Houghton County known as the Canadian Michigan Exchange, which is where the CMX code comes from. The field was planned as an emergency diversion point for flights crossing to western Canada, and the county dedicated it to the memory of those who served in wartime. Wisconsin Central Airlines began flights within months, followed over the decades by North Central, Republic, Northwest Airlink, Mesaba, and Delta Connection. The 1972 to 1974 expansion added the current terminal, new hangars, a fire station, and the industrial park. Today CMX is Michigan's northernmost airport and the only commercial airfield serving Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga, and Ontonagon counties, with scheduled flights supported through the federal EAS program.
Airlines Operating at CMX
United Express, operated by SkyWest Airlines, is the sole scheduled passenger carrier. SkyWest flies 50 seat CRJ 200 regional jets under a federal EAS contract that runs from February 2025 through January 2028 and calls for 14 round trips a week. In March 2022 SkyWest filed to withdraw from CMX and 28 other communities, but the US Department of Transportation required continued service and the airline later renewed. During peak months the county has secured grant funding for a third daily flight. Royale Air Service offers seasonal seaplane charters to Isle Royale National Park, and FedEx and UPS move freight through the airport.
Domestic Destinations
Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) is the single scheduled destination, with two nonstop departures a day. Through United's O'Hare hub, Keweenaw travelers connect to hundreds of domestic and international cities, which is why many of our passengers arrive on the evening flight after a long same day journey and appreciate a chauffeur who has everything ready.
Terminal Information
The W. Clarence Dwyer Terminal opened in 1972 and covers about 12,550 square feet. It is a single level building with one boarding gate, a passenger waiting area, a TSA screening checkpoint, and a National and Alamo rental car counter. A former cafe space now houses a Veterans Affairs office. Because the holding area has shrunk as screening equipment was added, Houghton County is planning a replacement terminal, and the project was in FAA cost benefit review during 2025. For now, the terminal's small footprint means your chauffeur is never far from the arrivals door.
Passenger Traffic
CMX handled about 57,800 passengers in the 12 months ending July 2026, every one of them on the Chicago route. Traffic has been climbing: the airport recorded 13,305 passengers from January through March 2025, up from 10,413 in the same period of 2024, and management described it as the strongest pace since 2000. The airport logged 16,054 aircraft operations in 2022, two thirds of them general aviation, with 22 based aircraft and roughly 3,000 corporate, charter, and transient movements a year.
Parking Overview
Parking at CMX costs $5 per calendar day or any portion of a day, with spaces a short walk from the terminal. Payment runs through the CMX Virtual Parking System: scan the QR code posted at the parking spaces or pay online in advance with your license plate number, and purchase a new pass for stays beyond five days. The lot fills during Thanksgiving and holiday weeks, which is one reason many residents book a chauffeur for the ride to and from the airport.
Pick Up and Drop Off Guidance
The terminal has a single curbside loop directly in front of the entrance on Airpark Boulevard. For departures, your chauffeur pulls up at the door and unloads; plan to arrive about 90 minutes before the CRJ 200 departure, since the checkpoint opens on a schedule tied to the flight. For arrivals, bags come off quickly at the small claim area, and your chauffeur will be waiting inside the terminal holding a sign with your name, or at the curb if you prefer a direct walk to the vehicle.
Ground Transportation Options
Beyond our chauffeur service, choices are limited. National and Alamo operate the one rental counter inside the terminal, a few local taxi operators serve the Houghton and Hancock area, and some hotels run shuttles on request. Rideshare coverage in the Keweenaw is thin, especially for the evening arrival in winter. There is no public transit stop at the airport, and the nearest bus routes run within Houghton itself. Our CMX airport car service covers the gap with a confirmed vehicle for every flight.
Tips for Arriving Passengers
Dress for the Keweenaw before you land, since the walk from the aircraft to the terminal is outdoors on the ramp. Keep your chauffeur's contact details on your phone, and switch off airplane mode as soon as you taxi in so our arrival text reaches you.
Winter Arrival Planning
From November through April, expect snow on US 41 and Michigan Route 26 and allow extra time for every connection, including a return flight. Our chauffeurs track county road conditions and will suggest an earlier departure pickup when a storm is forecast.
Allow Extra Time on US 41
The highway between the airport and Houghton is well plowed, but the Portage Lake Lift Bridge raises for vessel traffic in the shipping season and traffic slows through downtown Hancock. Build 10 to 15 minutes of margin into any morning pickup.
Luggage and Gear Notes
Tell us about skis, snowboards, or oversized research equipment at booking so we assign an SUV or Sprinter van with room to spare.
Identification for the Return Flight
Since May 2025, TSA checkpoints require a REAL ID compliant license, passport, or another accepted form of identification. Travelers without one face extra screening steps, so check your documents before the ride back to CMX.
Why a Prebooked Chauffeur Beats Taxis and Rideshare at CMX?
With two flights a day and roughly 50 passengers on each, every taxi in Houghton County is spoken for within minutes of landing, and rideshare drivers rarely stage at a rural airport seven miles from the nearest town. A prebooked Union Limousine chauffeur removes that uncertainty: the vehicle is assigned to you before you leave Chicago, the price is fixed, and the driver adjusts to delays automatically. You also get a professionally maintained vehicle fit for Keweenaw winters, help with luggage, and the same standards we apply across our limo service nationwide, including a driver who knows the difference between the Hancock side and the Houghton side of the bridge.

Both cities are about four miles from the terminal. A sedan or SUV reaches downtown Hancock in roughly 10 minutes and crosses the Portage Lake Lift Bridge into Houghton a few minutes later, weather permitting.
Yes. Every booking is linked to your flight number, and dispatch follows the Chicago departure in real time. If the aircraft is late or early, your chauffeur adjusts the pickup without any action on your part.
Your chauffeur waits inside the W. Clarence Dwyer Terminal near baggage claim with a name sign. If you would rather head straight outside, the vehicle can stand at the curbside loop in front of the entrance.
We run the 41 mile trip up US 41 to Copper Harbor in every season. In winter we assign an SUV with proper traction, monitor road conditions, and pad the schedule so lodge check ins and ferry times are not missed.
A full size SUV seats up to six with skis, boards, and boot bags. Larger groups heading to Mount Bohemia or Mont Ripley usually choose a Sprinter van for the extra cargo room.
A chauffeured transfer removes the rental counter wait, winter driving on unfamiliar roads, fuel, and daily parking. For a two or three day stay around Houghton, many visitors find a pair of transfers simpler and often comparable in cost.
Yes. We handle campus tour pickups, Winter Carnival and commencement weekends, and departmental guests. Sprinter vans and mini coaches are available for admissions groups and visiting teams.
Plan to be at the terminal about 90 minutes before departure. Leaving Houghton 30 minutes before that is usually enough, and we recommend extra margin on snowy days or when the lift bridge is active.
Yes. Mini charter buses carry up to 35 passengers and full size motorcoaches carry up to 56, with luggage bays for a full week of gear. Give us your arrival details and we will stage the coach at the airport.
Tell dispatch as soon as you know. We rebook your transfer for the new arrival at no penalty, and if you divert to Marquette or another airport we can arrange a pickup there and bring you to the Keweenaw.
